AN EVEN, YET VARIED FACADE
In 2014 a newly built education center, HF & VUC Fyn, opened next to the central station in the city of Odense, Denmark. The complex is more than 12,000 square meters with about 1,500 students and employees and is designed by Danish architecture studio CEBRA. The building volume is covered by a pattern of rectangular aluminum cover plates, expanded aluminum mesh and window areas. The pattern breaks down the large building volume into human scale and at the same time creates an even, yet varied, facade that blurs the boundaries between floors and inner spaces.
As an integrated part of the facade selected mesh sections are backlit with RGB LED lights, which contribute to the variation of the facade and highlight the building at night. In dialogue with HF & VUC Fyn and CEBRA architects design office Kollision has designed a series of lighting designs that emphasize the architectural pattern and create a vivid expression. Based on rush-hours and weather conditions Kollision’s content player runs dynamically calculated and spatially distributed designs. The result is a scattered expression hand in hand with large coherent geometric shapes and sinus curves - a balance between tying the building together and dissolving it even further.
The building concept was initiated by CEBRA architects and together with Martin Professional they are responsible for developing the mesh sections with integrated RGB LED lights. Kollision created the dynamic lighting designs and developed and programmed the player system.
