Activity Wall

In 2023 Kollision was asked by Bioinnovation Institute (BII) - to design a partner wall for their new extension to their facilities in Copenhagen. BII is an international enterprise foundation operating an incubator to accelerate world-class life science innovation. In the central foyer space a wooden furniture separates the main space from a library-like area. On the “public” side of the furniture Activity Wall is installed as two large horizontal displays presenting what we affectionately referred to as "the proverbial soup" - a cellular dynamic organism containing the numerous start-ups and programs working under the roof of BII.

Based on dialogues with the client Kollision suggested the concept of a “soup” containing all entities in the house - start-ups, programs, partners, sponsors etc. To avoid a constant push of information the Activity Wall is mainly ambient, calm and non-intrusive until a user scans a QR-code and hereby takes control. The scan activates an interface on the users’ mobile device enabling sorting, filtering and presentation of groups, programs and start-up companies. Additional information is accessible through all the simultaneous connected mobile devices. When Activity Wall is in idle mode it will once in a while present a company or a program before returning to the ever changing “soup” - as the genie of the house.

Kollision designed the Activity Wall in dialogue with BII and the main architects Kontekst. Kontekst designed the physical furniture, Kollision supervised to fit all technical parts and the contractor Hoffmann handled the production. The installation was completed in collaboration with Cipex handling the cabling and mounting of the two large displays into the furniture. Kollision designed, programmed and implemented the Activity Wall application pulling data from a central BII repo as well as the mobile web app allowing users to filter and present the content and information of the ingredients of the “soup”.
