HELSINGE
01.06.2004
THE TASK
In Spring 2004, Kollision was invited by Helsinge municipality to prepare a vision paper for Helsinge city. The vision would be used to discuss the possibilities of Helsinge in partnership with city stakeholders in the preparation of the forthcoming plan for the entire municipality.
A SCENARIO-BASED VISION
Our vision is built on the fictional character, Kaptain's Okây’s visit to Helsinge city together with his equally fictional friend Nalstjarn Farbautsson. Based on their visit a 100 years earlier, they tell the story of the city’s development, leading up to an analysis of the city today told through a series of scenarios in text, pictures and diagrams. Based on the analysis and meetings with local fictitious people (personas) Kaptain Okây and his friend presents a series of visions for the future Helsinge in 2010. These visions are communicated through images and narrative texts, inscribing the people he met during his visit in an imagined future, telling their story and their experiences in the future city.
THE OUTPUT
Our contribution to the vision process was turned into a book consisting of past, present and future. The idea behind this format was that the citizens could continue ‘writing’ the future, expanding the visions with their own ideas. The book was presented at a large workshop with more than a 100 participants as a kick-off event for the on-going process of creating a new vision-based plan for the Municipality of Helsinge.
