ICOSAHEDRON

At the 2025 annual Northside Festival the organizers’ Atmospheric team redesigned the "forest area” into an open air club for DJ’ing sessions. Kollision proposed a number of geometric structures based on light manufacturer Martin Professional’s linear fixtures. One of these - an icosahedron structure consisting of 12 corners, 30 edges and 20 faces was chosen to serve as a welcoming chandelier hanging six meters high above the two entrances to the area.
Each icosahedron is assembled by custom aluminum brackets and reinforced with a light profile construction creating a strong and rigid structure leaving space for hiding cables.

The icosahedrons create two distinct gates inviting by-passers inside the forest area. Entering the area the light structure has the forest as a backdrop whereas leaving will reveal the structure on the night sky.
A set of realtime generated lighting designs exploiting the 3D positions of each LED as well as understanding of the geometry of the icosahedron illuminates the crowns of the trees. Through sensors hidden by each icosahedron subtle bursts of white light are activated as people enter and leave the area.

Kollision designed the concept and developed the final construction in collaboration with Northside. Martin Professional provided light fixtures and cables and Kollision designed the sensor system and infrastructure integrating into MAP that was used to develop the dynamic light designs.
