OUTSIDE IN
Created for Sydhavens Festival 2025 by Kollision, Lynn & Wahlberg, Outside In is an immersive art installation where six computer-controlled winches manipulate two monumental rings of light in a choreography of light, motion, and sound. Eight spatially arranged loudspeakers form a layered sonic environment evoking flowing water, shifting rhythms, and subtle movement.
TWO RINGS IN 3 DIMENSIONS
Each ring measures three metres in diameter and hangs side by side in a darkened space, moving up and down within a 4.5-metre range. They can slowly tilt at angles and shift through smooth formations in all heights — individually or together.
One ring has programmable LEDs on its outer edge, with a matching circle cut from the floor below and fitted with a recessed LED strip that illuminates the void. The second ring has LEDs on its inner edge and inscribes a raised platform made from the floor section removed under the first ring. This platform also holds an outward-facing LED strip.
Together, the rings and underlying floor planes can project light inward or outward — outside in, inside out — independently or in sync, reshaping the spatial relationship between objects and audience.

A COMPOSED EXPERIENCE
The work unfolds as a composition: beginning in almost darkness, monochromatic flickers, and understated sound, gradually increasing in complexity and intensity. Light, motion, and audio merge into a powerful spatial performance — an interplay between precision engineering and an accurate control system, inviting the audience into a playful spatial dialogue between inside and outside.
ROLES
Based on a shared concept and collaboration, Mads Wahlberg produced the physical hardware — computer-controlled winches and light rings. Kollision designed and programmed the control system for light and movement, while Lynn created the spatial soundscape and contributed to the spatial light control.
