PROPPEN

Aalborg waterfront has for a long time undergone major changes and has become an attractive place to live. This is exactly where Stjernepladsen is - a newly built city space in the heart of Aalborg.

Back in time there was a small wooden shed called Proppen, where beer was poured. It quickly became a meeting place for various workers at the harbor, and has been the inspiration for rebuilding a multifunctional meeting place and pavilion for Stjernepladsen. The outcome is a simple and unheated glass and steel construction with free access for everybody. The ground level is transparent but the upper parts of the facades are frosted to diffuse the light from the fixtures installed on the inside on the vertical construction lines. Their perspective is extended by a mirror in the ceiling of the pavilion, which creates an almost kaleidoscopic expression and the feeling of great height. The light sources are RGB pixel products and are controlled by Kollision's MAP player.

Stjernepladsen - including Proppen - has been developed by A. Enggaard A/S. The city space is designed by By+Land, Proppen by Arkitektfirmaet Nord, and Kollision have contributed to the layout of the fixtures, their integration in the architecture and have designed the dynamic lighting design. Light sources are provided by SGM Light.
