RESPONSIVE URBAN LIGHTING
Via Lumina is an interactive and responsive lighting system that enhances the pedestrian experience. As individuals move through the area, light posts gradually illuminate, creating a sense of safety and comfort. The lights follow their movements, adjusting to pace and direction, dimming once they have passed, providing a seamless transition between light and darkness. This interactive dynamic creates a more welcoming and engaging environment. For users, Via Lumina does more than provide illumination; it fosters a deeper connection to the space. When multiple people are present, the lighting briefly creates shared pockets of light, subtly emphasising the presence and movement of others in the area.
EFFICIENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY
The system relies on motion sensors to detect movement and trigger the lights in real-time. Each light post is equipped with one integrated PIR sensor and two DALI spot light sources. The light fixtures are controlled by our central software platform MAP that processes sensor data and adjusts the lighting accordingly to provide an energy-efficient installation focusing on safety and user-experience.
OUR ROLE
In the current case, Lyseng Aarhus, we have tapped into the DALI protocol and mapped the spatial positions of 14 light fixtures using MAP to design a number of dynamic evolving light designs along the approximately 100m pathway. Apart from the variety of lighting designs triggered by the sensors the system can enter an idle mode pretending that “ghosts” move through the area. In collaboration with the Municipality of Aarhus, Kollision developed the concept for the installation, physical integration and system design. Cipex handled the PIR sensors, DALI and KNX infrastructure.
