Abstract
This paper outlines a historical perspective on urban media as a background for identifying new tendencies within the field of media facades. Two main trends are identified: How screen properties can weave into the architecture and challenge media facades as being simply a digital skin draped onto the architecture. And how interactive and situated strategies are used as opposed to mass-communication. The paper draws from a series of large-scale installations in the shape of temporary events and permanent media facades.
